THE 4TH ANNOUNCEMENT

Workshop

Numerical Modeling of Earthquake Motions:
Waves and Ruptures

June 23 - 27, 2024
Smolenice Castle near Bratislava, Slovakia

The aim of the workshop is to share recent advances in the numerical modeling and understanding of earthquake rupture, earthquake ground motion, and ambient seismic noise. Better understanding of physics of these phenomena based on available seismic data and efficient numerical modelling should eventually help to progress in predicting earthquake ground motion.

Topics and aspects

Main topics
Earthquake source dynamics
Earthquake ground motion

Main aspects
Numerical methods for rupture propagation
Numerical methods for seismic wave propagation in complex media
in relation to earthquake motion and seismic noise
Analysis of earthquake source dynamics
Analysis of earthquake ground motion
Methods for predicting earthquake ground motion

Co-chairpersons

Pierre-Yves Bard ISTerre, Université Grenoble Alpes, France

Dates of the Workshop

Arrival at the Castle: June 23   2024 Sunday
Workshop Sessions: June 24 - 26   2024 Monday - Wednesday
Departure: June      27        2024 Thursday

Workshop Venue

The venue is the Smolenice Castle near Bratislava, Slovakia (50 km from downtown Bratislava, i.e., approximately 1 hour drive). The Castle, owned by the Slovak Academy of Sciences, was converted into a unique conference center. Because of its very nice setting, picturesque architecture, history-evoking interior and pleasant atmosphere, the Castle is a very popular conference venue.

Transportation

Participants may conveniently use the Bratislava Airport or Vienna International Airport (Austria), which is located only 46 km from Bratislava. There is at least one bus connection each half an hour from the Vienna airport to the Bratislava. The bus stop at the airport is located directly in front of the arrival hall.

Alternatively participants may arrive in Wien Hauptbahnhof and use one of many train connections to Bratislava.

More information about how to reach Bratislava.

We organize transportation from Bratislava - Bus Station Nivy to the Smolenice Castle.
The bus pick-up places and schedule will be specified later.

Participants preferring individual transportation to the Smolenice Castle will be provided with detailed information on how to reach the Castle.
